SHODAI USHIJIMA obtained a Master of Engineering degree in 2015 and joined Cosmos Technical Center Co., Ltd., a group company of his current affiliation. For nearly a decade since then, he has been engaged in the development of novel cosmetic ingredients utilizing organic synthesis and biotechnological methodologies. His current position is Senior Scientist in the Synthesis/Process Development Group at the Materials Development Laboratory, Nikko Chemicals Co., Ltd. From 2019 to 2020, he was seconded to the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore, where he served as a Joint Researcher, focusing on research related to phospholipids and enzymatic reactions. He is an inventor on multiple patents and has significant experience, particularly in the synthesis of surfactants and the development of functional ingredients. The cosmetic ingredients he has developed have been adopted by companies worldwide, contributing to the beauty and well-being of people globally.
