Alan Paine retired in 2020 after a long career with Desmet specializing in edible oil refining including sales, design, commissioning and plant audits. He now works as a part time consultant for the US Soybean Export Council and others. He served as Vice Chair of the AOCS Processing Division from 2020 to 2023. Retirement has allowed him to expand his interests and in 2023 he published a science fiction novel https://mybook.to/asuggestioninspace alongside a range of other writing. Alan is actively involved in amateur theatre and recently appeared in a short play as part of a drama festival in the North East of England. He is married with three children and four grandchildren.
