Past and current work has addressed issues related to trans fatty acids, soy protein and isoflavones, sterol/stanol esters, novel vegetable oils differing in fatty acid profile, glycemic index, taste perception, and diet quality. Selected issues have been investigated in animal models and cell systems with the aim of determining the mechanisms by which dietary factors alter cardiometabolic risk. Additional work is focused on population-based studies to assess the relationship between nutrient biomarkers and cardiometabolic risk, and on the application of systematic review methodology to the field of nutrition. Dr. Lichtenstein has received the Holman Career Achievement Award and Supelco Research Award from the American Oil Chemists Society. She has been elected as a fellow of the American Heart Association and American Society of Nutrition. Among others, she has received the David Kritchevsky Career Achievement Award, Conrad A.
