VP of Engineering
Lutros, LLC
Chattanooga, TN, United States
Travis Danner, PhD, Vice President of Engineering and founder of Lutros, LLC, has over 25 years of experience in engineering, renewable energy, technology development and process engineering. He has spearheaded the development of the company’s process technology and its implementation in production from conceptual design through construction and commissioning. Process technologies have included feedstock rendering & refining, fatty acid stripping, esterification, transesterification, isomerization, hydrogenation, prilling and encapsulation, and alcohol distillation. Dr. Danner has devoted much of the last 10 years to conventional and advanced methods of feedstock pretreatment for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. He has worked extensively with sorbent powders--clays, silicas, diatomaceous earth, and others--to optimize formulations for low carbon intensity feedstocks such as low grade tallows, poultry fat, and distillers corn oil. Most recently he has dedicated his efforts towards developing a low cost, fully continuous alternate approach to conventional pretreatment. Dr. Danner formerly worked with Computational Systems, Inc., developing predictive maintenance systems, and with NASA, leading clean energy projects. He earned a PhD in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he specialized in complex system design and thermodynamics. His undergraduate work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, was in mechanical engineering. Dr. Danner also grew up on a working farm in East Tennessee and knows first-hand the challenges and opportunities associated with agri-business.
