Thilini Dissanayake is a PhD candidate at the Food Proteins and Bioproducts Research Lab at the University of Manitoba, Canada, working under the guidance of Dr. Nandika Bandara. She completed her MSc in 2022, focusing on agricultural byproduct protein-based sustainable food packaging materials. Thilini’s PhD research centers on developing hemp protein-based nanodelivery systems to enhance the bioavailability of bioactive compounds. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2018. Additionally, she has gained research experience through exchange studies and research visits at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden; the University of Melbourne in Australia; and the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, in India. Beyond her research, Thilini is an active volunteer and leader in various organizations, including the American Oil Chemists’ Society, the Institute of Food Technologists, the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology, and the University of Manitoba.
