Abstract: 3-hydroxydecanoic acid (3-HDA) is one of the fatty acids that has been identified as one of the main components of royal jelly. This research focuses on its biosynthesis with microbial fermentation as well as its potential applications. The compound producted by fermentation of bacterials was found to possess some surface activities and the profound anti-inflammatory effect reflected on LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Further, 3-HDA showed the potential applications on agriculture as anti-pathogenic agents against plant diseases like Fusarium granimearum and the abiotic stress resistance. The readily mass production of 3-HDA and its extensive applicability suggest it would be a promising lipid in future.
