Abstract: The main objective of this research is to synthesize epoxy cardanol by using the bio-based raw materials obtained from cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). The chemical reaction involved a simple procedure that utilizes acetic acid or formic acid in the presence of amberlite resin and hydrogen peroxide. Standard analytical techniques combined with spectroscopic analysis such as Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) suggested the formation of the products with varying degrees of epoxy functional groups. The synthesized bio-monomerswere then transformed into epoxy cast resins by reacting with the Lewis acidic catalyst tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane.
