Renewable diesel feedstocks, including used cooking oil (UCO), animal fats, crude vegetable oils, and their blends, contain metal ion and phospholipid contaminants that can reduce the lifespan of precious metal catalysts used in renewable diesel production. These impurities are typically removed through a pre-treatment process incorporating water-wash, chemical degumming, and dry-washing techniques. This presentation delves into the various types of filter aids used in the dry-wash process, such as diatomaceous earth, bleaching earth, and silica gel. It also explores process improvements and waste cake pyrophoricity differences between various filter aids and adsorbents. By examining these aspects, we aim to provide insights into enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of renewable diesel pre-treatment. processes.
