Abstract: A major interest of the Plant Lipids Interest Group is the standardization of lipidomic protocols across different laboratories and instruments. A pre-ring trial was initiated in the summer of 2024 at the establishment of the Plant Lipids Interest Group. In the ensuing months, ten laboratories distributed across North America, Europe, and Asia began working on the pre-ring trial. The same Arabidopsis leaf extract and lipid standard mix were provided by the Kansas Lipidomics Research Center to all participating labs. A set of 156 phospho- and galactolipids were agreed upon by the group for targeted quantification. Preliminary results showed that for galactolipids there was higher variability in quantification among the labs, whereas the variability for phospholipids was much lower. At the molecular species scale for each lipid class, the galactolipids showed lowered variability in quantification compared to the phospholipids. This could be due to the greater diversity of molecular species in phospholipids. Further analysis of the datasets as they are shared by group members awaits.
