Abstract:
This study introduces a novel and rapid method for reducing free fatty acids (FFA) in acidic crude palm oil (ACPO) using a liquid-liquid extraction technique. This method, presented for the first time, effectively reduces FFA content from high levels, such as 50%, to less than 0.5%. The process is non-destructive, preserving the fatty acid profile while delivering significant energy savings compared to traditional FFA pre-treatment methods. This approach is low-cost, energy-efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly. Recently patented in the United States, this technology has the potential to revolutionize oil and fat processing, enhancing the value of industrial oil products.
